摘要

Domestic electronic equipment orders softened slightly in August (Chart 1). The key cause of the modest drop was a non-recurrence of July s military electronics "bookings bubble." Other end markets (communications, computers, instruments & controls and non-military search & navigation equipment) were stable. However September's continued erosion of the U.S. "Purchasing Managers' Index" (Chart 2) confirms that the slowing U.S. economy is still on a "soft landing" trajectory heading into 2007.
