The regional aircraft market is being transformed at both the manufacturing level and the customer level. Airbus and Boeing, the two manufacturing giants in the large commercial airliner market, are each making moves to establish a significant presence in the 100-130 passenger segment of the regional aircraft market.Interestingly, the two companies are doing so via the acquisitions route rather than through new product development. In mid-2018, Airbus acquired a majority stake in CSALP, the entity formerly owned by Bombardier that oversees production of the 108-160 passenger CSeries aircraft family. Airbus subsequently rebranded the CSeries as the A220.
