Oops! In recognition of an ambitious plan to construct a new, wider Suez Canal, the Egyptian government issued a commemorative postage stamp. But alas, the stamp depicts the Panama Canal, not the Suez Canal. The government promises to investigate the error, and the postal department will issue a new stamp depicting the Suez Canal. NOW that's a pretty penny! In 2013 the U.S. Mint lost $55 million by manufacturing pennies, each of which costs 1.83 cents to produce because of its copper and zinc composition. It seems that as the cost of copper and zinc rose during the early 21st century, the U.S. Mint started losing money on penny production. The budget for fiscal year 2015, which began on October 1, notes that the U.S. Department of the Treasury is undertaking a "comprehensive review" of American currency that will include an analysis of the production and use of all coins.
