Covered as they are with vegetation, "green" roofs are known to convey a host of environmental benefits, but researchers at the University of Toronto say that more can be done to assess their performance so as to optimize roof design. The university's Green Roof Innovation Testing Laboratory (GRIT Lab) is conducting three studies that examine the performance of various green roof features and configurations, including a program launched this year that explores the benefits of incorporating solar photovoltaic panels into such roofs.
