This work proceeds from the projection that between 2010 and 2030 more than $20 trillion will be spent in the United States on reshaping urban areas and that this level of expenditure will present an enormous opportunity, fueled by demographic trends, to undo mistakes that have been made in the past and create desirable neighborhoods. Author Arthur C. Nelson, Ph.D., a professor of city and metropolitan planning at the University of Utah, is an expert on urban demographic trends, and with this work he presents hard data in favor of developing high-density, walkable communities.
