The 102-story Empire State Building, in New York City, is one of the most iconic engineering landmarks in the world, but each year for the past 36 years it has become the site of one of the most celebrated staircase races in the world: the Empire State Building Run-Up, the vertical marathon up to its 86th-floor observation deck. The winners of this year's race, which was held on February 5, were Australians Mark Bourne and Suzy Walsham. Bourne finished in 10 minutes, 12 seconds; Walsham in 12 minutes, 5 seconds.
