摘要

Two visonaries are turning to the sea for inspired undertakings: one an underwater "city" designed as a habitat for as many as 100 people, the other an enormous vertical ship that would serve as a research vessel. The proposed Sub-Biosphere 2 (SBS2) project envisions a self-sustaining underwater city that would replicate different ecosystems on earth-except that the ecosystems would be contained within a series of submersed, spherical habitats. SBS2 is the brainchild of Philip Pauley, the founding director and owner of PAULEY, a digital consultancy with offices in London and Milton Keynes, United Kingdom. Pauley took his inspiration from the similar land-based project carried out in the 1990s that was known as Biosphere 2, in which researchers were sealed inside an artificial ecosystem in Arizona for periods of approximately two years.
