摘要

Researchers in the United Kingdom are working to develop a form of self-healing concrete that, through a change in concrete properties, could repair cracks. Materials for Life, a research project that is being led by scientists at Cardiff University in conjunction with those at the University of Bath and the University of Cambridge, is in its early stages but has already won acclaim for developing what could be an engineering breakthrough. The project builds on more than a decade of research around the world on the feasibility of self-healing materials, and its purpose is to develop a concrete having constituents that could sense cracks and bring about a change of properties so as to facilitate healing.
