Trio of Steel Bridges Designed to Strengthen Road Transport in Nepal

摘要

Three new steel bridges across fast-flowing rivers in a relatively inaccessible region of eastern Nepal have been designed to improve vehicular transportation in locations in which most travel has been possible only by foot or cart. Two of the bridges were completed last year. A 96 m long structure across the Pilu-wa River, a tributary of the much larger Arun River, is located about 51 km north of the city of Dharan and was completed early in the year, and a 120 m long crossing of the Sabha River, another Arun tributary, was completed in late 2012. The third bridge, a 120 m crossing that will span the Arun itself, is under construction and will probably be completed sometime in 2014.
