摘要

One of the most com-mon images of people being made redundant by technology is that of robots in manufacturing plants. While this development has been hailed as revo- lutionary, it has also been decried as hurting the lower and middle classes as jobs evaporate. In Who Owns the Future? Jaron Lanier explains in great detail how something similar and perhaps less obvious is happening as a consequence of online digital networks. His go-to example is the comparison between the former photography giant Kodak, now bankrupt and a shell of its $28-billion, 140,000-em-ployee former self, and Insta-gram, an online photo-sharing service that sold for $1 billion despite the fact that it employs only 13 people.
