As the self-propelled mobile transporters (SPMTs) carried the first arch toward the construction site, the tension mounted. Never before had a set of posttensioned-concrete network arches been precast off-site and then moved into place. The slightest misstep in the process could damage the arches, costing millions of dollars in materials and time. When the first arch was finally safely secured to its columns, the builders, the engineers, and the onlookers felt a sense of relief. But that was just the beginning: they had 11 more arches to set.
