During the 20th century, we were told at various times that we were living in the atomic age, the jet age, the space age, and the information age. But we may be at the beginning of something more important, namely, a third industrial revolution, brought about by the convergence of distributed communications (Internet, wireless, and satellite technologies) and distributed energy (with a particular emphasis on renewable sources).
