In His Monthly column, ASCE's president, Andrew W. Herrmann, P.E., SECB, F.ASCE, emphasizes the importance of outreach efforts to ensure that elected officials understand the steps that need to be taken in the area of infrastructure. As he explains, "ASCE offers many ways to help you engage inrnthese activities. An easy first step is to join the Key Contact Program. This program provides tips and information to help you build relationships with your elected officials. Once you have built a relationship with them, when a critical issue arises, they already know you as a trusted source of information. Thus, your opinion will have more weight than that of an opposing group that hasn't made that connection."
