The Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Mou-ra has been named the recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Souto de Moura has designed more than 60 projects, including the Estadio Municipal de Braga, a soccer stadium built into a hillside in Braga, Portugal, and the Torre Burgo, a 20-story er winner, Alvaro Siza, for many years, will receive a $100,000 grant and a bronze medallion at a ceremony that will be held in June in Washington, D.C. The prize was established in 1979 by the late Jay A. Pritzker and his wife, Cindy. Its purpose is to honor a living architect whose work embodies talent, vision, and commitment and who has made significant contributions to humanity and the built environment through architecture.
