The drought problem in Texas received renewed attention in September, in large part as a spillover from the attention given to tropical storms Lee and Nate. Lee produced catastrophic flooding in the northeastern part of the country, and while it seemed as though Nate might bring the Lone Star State some urgently needed rain, the result was largely disappointing. Despite our ubiquitous 24-hour media age, the months-long lapse in national coverage of the drought was typical.
