With the horror resulting from the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti still unfolding on our televisions and computer screens, we are reminded once again of what is at stake in the quest to predict major earthquakes. With Predicting the Unpredictable, seismologist Susan Hough, Ph.D., reminds us that, at least for now, that ability appears out of reach.
