A U.S. Space entrepreneur has announced plans to develop a moon base that could be rapidly deployed and could house up to 18 astronauts in inflatable modules. Robert Bigelow, who founded Big-elow Aerospace in 1999 in Las Vegas, has invested $ 180 million to create the moon base, which crew members may be able to pilot directly onto the moon's surface. In 2006 and 2007 Bigelow launched two expandable space modules to serve as prototypes of larger space structures; those modules, Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, are now circling the earth.
