One emerging area of risk for design professionals concerns legal issues arising from what is referred to as green construction. Many readers have a working knowledge of or even a professional accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council, the developer of the widely used Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. For those who do not have a working knowledge of the system, at its core LEED provides owners with a framework by which they can attain various levels of certification by conforming to the principles of sustainable development.
