The relocation of a runway at Los Angeles International Airport and the construction of a new parallel taxiway are expected to greatly reduce the number of runway incursions experienced by the world's sixth-busiest airport. But it wasrnnot just passenger safety that had to be considered in the engineering of this project. Reducing water, noise, and air pollution ivas critical to the design and to the mitigation, monitoring, and reporting program established to meet the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.
