According to Johan Troskie, a civil engineer at Bigen Africa and leader of the construction project, the taxi rank was designed with sustainability and conservation principles in mind. "These include the use of alternative systems of energy and water provision, resulting in considerable savings for the local municipality." In terms of user convenience, the facility offers amenities such as flush toilets, recycling bins, loading bays for drivers and benches for commuters. The area even has six informal trading bays and two kiosks for utilisation by local entrepreneurs. This new facility contrasts strongly with the preconstruction state of the site, which was simply an open piece of land with no formal infrastructure.
