The engineers and architects working together to design a mixed-use high-rise that is expected to be constructed in Harlem, in the northern part of the New York City borough of Manhattan, this summer take the notion of collaboration more seriously than most. They share not only ideas but also office space. "We're trying to go back to the future in a way, with a very old-school collaborative approach," says Stephen DeSimone, the president of New York City-based DeSimone Consulting Engineers, who is working with Enrique Norton and other architects from, the New York City offices of TEN Arquitectos and Designgroup International on the 585,000 sq ft (54,350 m~2) building, known as Harlem Park. To obviate the need for countless meetings and conference calls, DeSimone invited the architects to set up shop in his Manhattan office.
