The Energy From Waste Champion award celebrates a leading organisation that, well, generates energy from waste! The first of the seven finalists is Geminor UK, which it says "managed the recovery of around half a million tonnes of RDF from the UK and Ireland", holding supply contracts with more than 70 waste to energy facilities in the UK and Europe. Joining Geminor, is AKey Technology Ltd which, along with its partners, the ETI, are delivering "a first of a kind waste gasification plant", which it says will be highly efficient at converting selected wastes into renewable heat, power and low carbon fuels. 'The ultra low emissions will allow the small and compact modular plant to be embedded at the heart of the community or industrial development, to provide local heat and power to local people, with low network connection and transmission costs."
