Electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to move into the fast lane over the next 20-30 years. The International Energy Agency's latest Global EV Outlook reports that 1m electric cars were sold in 2017, a rise of over 50 percent from 2016. By 2040, Bloomberg forecasts more than half of all new car sales and a third of global fleet will be electrified. As adoption of EVs becomes the new normal, the need to improve the recovery and recycling of the lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries within them grows ever critical.
