The article that leads this issue, on reversing safety systems, and the development of one particular problem in partnership between the company behind at a local authority actually using it, is great to see. It's what MVO has strived for since we started doing this 42 issues ago. Back then we shouted that MVO was there to "provide the missing link between manufacturers and operators". And while we can't take the credit for getting ISS International and Bournemouth Borough Council together in the first place, at least we were able to get down to the south coast and see first-hand how manufacturer and operator are getting on.There's no doubt that any development, product or partnership that adds a further element of safer operating in the sector is a good thing. A VERY good thing. And recent data from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), as well as a further report from the Environmental Services Association (ESA), shows that there is always more that can be done.Recent HSE statistics, for example, revealed fatalities in the waste and recycling sector to be around 15 times higher than the all-UK industry average, with 39 worker fatalities recorded since 2012.
