Hopefully, it will not have escaped readers' notice that CIWM took a strong lead in the past few weeks on the Defra and HM Treasury consultations on Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging, the Deposit Return Scheme, collection consistency and the plastics packaging tax. Recognising the complexity and scale of change involved, as well as the imperative for full supply chain collaboration, CIWM worked with all four UK governments and a range of organisations - including arc2l in Northern Ireland, Alupro, the British Plastics Federation, Environmental Services Association (ESA), Incpen, the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (Larac), NIpak/Scotpak, Resource Association, Suez, Welsh Local Government Association and Wrap -to organise eight events across the UK for CIWM members and other sector professionals. The events were designed to 'unpack' and debate some of the key details and questions, and help delegates to understand better how the consultations align with each other. In total, we reached more than 700 delegates, and had plenty of useful feedback and initial reactions to the consultations to help inform CIWM's responses, which can be found in the knowledge section of the CIWM website.
