As if the UK recycling industry isn't under enough pressure from challenging targets, contamination, market instability and public confusion, it is now threatened by a ban on the export of recyclable materials to China. Judging by the response to this impending ban, the resource and waste sector isn't taking this lying down. The resource sector trade associations started the ball rolling with a letter to the Resources Minister asking her to take urgent action on the Chinese Government's proposed tighter import controls on waste materials. WRAP was copied into that letter and its chief executive, Marcus Gover, responded extensively outlining the issues and suggesting that there will continue to be other markets for our materials, if we can raise our game.
