Northern Ireland has achieved the EU-set goal of recycling 50 per cent of household waste by 2020. The Department of Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs announced the news at CIWM's Northern Ireland conference, confirming that the province had reached a recycling rate of 50.6 per cent in 2019 - an increase of 4.3 per cent since 2017.
