Scottish firm MacRebur is our pioneer for this issue, for developing a type of asphalt that uses waste plastic. 'I was working in southern India with a charity that helps people who retrieve useful items from landfill sites,' explains company chief executive Toby McCartney. 'I saw people filling potholes with waste plastic, then setting it alight until it melted to form a makeshift pothole filler.'
