After my first day with the Environment Agency (EA), I was flicking through the TV channels when I came across the BBC's War on plastic, presented by Anita Rani and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. I was shocked by what I saw: mountains of plastic waste in Far East countries such as Malaysia. Even more shocking was that the waste obviously came from Britain - who can forget the plastic orange supermarket bags? And here I was, training to be the newest member of the EA's illegal waste exports team - a unit tasked with tackling exactly what the documentary had discovered.
