摘要

The debate about recycling targets and the inconsistency in how cities report and calculate them for comparison is more pertinent than ever as many cities are using these statistics to demonstrate their "eco-credentials". Many cities are reporting very high recycling rates which, at a glance, seem impossible based upon our UK interpretation of recycling rates. To explore the data and assumptions used by these cities and provide underpinning evidence for more robust measurement and reporting, The London Waste Recycling Board (LWARB) and the Greater London Authority (GLA] asked Social, Environmental & Economic Solutions (SOENECS) Ltd to assess the differences in reported recycling rates across major world cities. This report has been prepared through desktop research using the SOENECS/CIWM EU Compositional Assessment Tool (EUCAT) on 20 world cities.
