Last issue we outlined the six key challenges for local authorities in 2016. Using authors with their finger on the pulse of local authority issues, such as LARAC's chief executive Lee Marshall; WRAP'S head of collection and quality, Linda Crichton; APSE's principal advisor, Wayne Priestley; Ricardo's practice director Adam Read; and Northampton Waste Partnership's Vanessa Kelly, we identified these key issues as: 1. budget constraints - the need to deliver more for less 2. collection frequencies - changing systems, why and what works best? 3. partnership working - why do it and the challenges of getting partnerships off the ground 4. multi-occupancy collections - communicating with residents and the practicalities of collection 5. street cleaning - what systems? what equipment? what cost? 6. and the operation of HWRCs - safe operation, meeting targets, keeping to budget...
