In February 2016 the European Commission (EC) launched a public consultation on the scope and objectives of a new bioenergy sustainability policy for the period 2020-2030; this includes bioenergy from waste. The review will form part of the EU renewable energy package, which is due to be published by the end of 2016. Stakeholders are invited to provide their views on the role that bioenergy should play in the energy mix and how the risks commonly associated with bioenergy could be minimised whilst maximising the benefits. The consultation closes on 10 May 2016.
