During april representatives of EU member states were grappling with the finer details of the European Commission's circular economy proposals on waste. In a series of meetings in Brussels chaired by officials from the Netherlands, which holds the EU Presidency for the first six months of 2016, national experts scrutinised a number of aspects of the draft waste legislation: the definitions of municipal waste, bio-waste, preparing for reuse, backfilling, and final recycling process; the rules governing by-products and end of waste status; and the provisions on waste prevention.
