摘要

The CIWM Resource Conference Cymru was held last month, and it was an event to celebrate the vision and the associated success in Wales as the country moves from waste to resource management. During the conference there were positive indications that Wales is making significant progress on the journey towards "one planet living". The vision that emerged during the first session was one of building a resilient economy and business, as well as resilience to climate change. CIWM president, John Quinn, referred to the need to "de-materialise rather than de-industrialise". This can be achieved through a more circular approach to growth. It was evident that whilst Wales may not have badged its recycling, reuse and waste prevention activities as "circular economy", it has indeed been making great strides towards it. This is no easy task and as Craig Mitchell of the Welsh Local Government Association pointed out, progress has been made as a result of incredibly hard work by local authorities, moving Wales from being the worst performer in the UK to being the best.
