Q I've heard that there are proposals for a Medium Combustion Plant Directive. What does the proposed Directive cover, who will be affected, and what impact is it likely to have on sectors such as thermal treatment and renewable energy? A The European Commission proposed a directive limiting emissions to air from certain pollutants from medium combustion plants in its Clean Air Package in December 2013, and in December 2014 reached a "general approach", or informal opinion from the Council of the European Union, on a proposal for the Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD). This is one of the first steps in the process of the MCPD becoming European law.
