摘要

I am a centre councillor, and a trustee. I also chair the Scientific and Technical (S&T) committee and am currently Junior Vice President of the Institution. Although the different roles have different responsibilities, they all have the same main purpose, which is to ensure that CIWM delivers for its members and reflects our opinions and values. As a Centre Councillor I help to try and recruit new members and inform local members what is happening more widely through events and open meetings. My favourite role in CIWM is as chair of S&T - it's my favourite for a whole host of reasons: 1. it's fun - we have a laugh at S&T, but we also do some great work 2. I think "technical" is the most important part of CIWM -it's how we lead the industry and gain evidence to help us lobby on behalf of the sector 3. I get to influence the research that we undertake and see the results before they are published 4. the technical team at CIWM are great, they are incredibly well-informed and willing to share (and they try not to make me look stupid) 5. and S&T brings together a wide cross-section of the sector, so I can always be sure I am up-to-date and know the right people to ask… which impresses my students!
