The circular economy (CE) is high on the political agenda. Much of the 2015 World Economic Forum in Davos focused on circularity of resources. Around the world researchers and businesses are researching the CE model and realising its potential. Businesses will need to pay close attention to this shift in focus if they are going to benefit from this circular economy. The European Environment State and Outlook 2015 Report (SOER-2015), written by the European Environment Agency will inform the next five years of EU policy-making. The report states that despite recent progress in waste prevention and management, EU waste generation remains substantial, and performance relative to policy targets is mixed. "Waste management will need to change radically in order to phase out completely the landfilling of recyclable or recoverable waste," the report states. The future of waste management is therefore in a state of change, and the impact will be widespread.
