In the last few weeks I've been fortunate enough to have been able to report on two round-table events that the CIWM Journal has helped to put together. The first, based around the Clean Britain Awards and discussing best practice in street cleansing and local environmental quality, you will see the results of later in this issue; the second, on underground waste collection systems, you will have to wait a whole four weeks for. When talking about how to best clean the streets of any given location, the participants in the Clean Britain discussion often referred to the "front line". The key to change is engaging with the front line. Success will only come if the front line are supported. It's about getting the systems right on the ground and at the front line.
