Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water and that landfill had been consigned to the dustbin (sorry!) of environmental history... it has risen from the ashes (sorry again!) of environmental legislation. Well, it has regained some prominence in the press, at least. There has been a recent flurry of references, some direct and others oblique, to landfill of late including proposed bans, the future of landfill tax, new targets for diversion, consultation papers, research reports and statements. This reflects a deal of publicity for the treatment option that sits firmly at the bottom of the waste hierarchy.
