A report commissioned by the British Plastics Federation (BPF) Recycling Group, to corroborate recycling rates, has concluded that the quantity of plastics packaging placed on the market is overstated by 300-400 000 tonnes per annum. The report analysed the National Packaging Waste Database (NPWD) returns and indicated that Defra's current assumption of a 2.5 percent growth rate for plastic packaging placed on the market is over-optimistic.
