The European Commission recently announced that it does not intend to set EL) end of waste criteria for any further materials not already under examination by the Joint Research Centre. Reflecting on the Commission's foray into the setting of technical criteria for waste streams such as glass cullet and aluminium scrap, it is debatable whether there is any clear benefit to businesses trading in these materials, for which healthy markets have long existed.
