Two new Johnston CX400 vacuum sweepers have recently gone into service in the City of London - the hallowed "Square Mile"famous for it's hard working bankers. Keeping the City clean and tidy is a tough job, but it's also one that requires increasing consideration given to "green issues" as anything that can help improve the environment and reduce CO_2 in a busy urban centre has to be a good thing. So it's interesting to note that trial figures suggest that the CX400s are expected to use 3.9 litres of diesel fuel less per hour than the regular 7.5-tonne truck-mounted sweepers doing a similar job. That adds up to a reduction of 21 tonnes in CO_1 emissions per vehicle, based on a 40-hour week, claims Johnston.
