Perhaps it is obvious to say that I have a long standing interest in the environment; I was a student on one of the earliest environmental science degrees in the days when footballers had perms or mullets and musically the choice was punk or the Bay City Rollers. The fascination with politics is a shorter affair, but my new real interest is where these two meet. 1 have felt for a long time that if politicians really demonstrated the same passion for the environment that they often claim to have, then legislation, strategies, policies and investment would have been in place a long time ago and we would now be seeing its effects.
