The challenge to the way the EU revised Waste Framework Directive was implemented in the UK has resulted in the need to demonstrate that commingled collections can produce quality comparable to that produced by kerbside sort collection systems. At Closed Loop Recycling we believe that the commingled collection system, combined with a well-run MRF, can produce good quality output. But collection focus can drive even more quality in cases where local authorities get a share of the increased value of higher quality materials, rather than simply receiving a fixed fee from their contractors, regardless of quality.
