The Environment Agency has successfully bid for European funding to create a new voluntary Electronic Duty of Care (eDOC) waste transfer note system. The project, one of the top 10 LIFE+ grant awards in its sector this year, was launched in London by the EU on 11 January 20111. With a total value of f 3.48m spread over four years the award is a major boost to the work of both the waste industry and the Environment Agency in particular to modernise data gathering systems, to improve regulatory efficiency and save nearly ￡30m per year in reduced compliance and data survey costs.
