The institution of Civil Engineers' (ICE) latest State of the Nation report on waste and resource management has called for a waste sector "revolution", that will cost between £10 and £20bn over the next decade. "There is an enormous amount of value locked up in the UK's waste," it proclaims, adding "Unlocking this value will require investment in infrastructure, at least £10-20bn in the period up to 2020."ICE says the progression to a "circular economy" - where recovered and recycled materials are high enough quality to be routinely bought back into use, reducing the demand for goods made from raw materials - could see the waste industry be part of a resource efficiency drive that could contribute 10 percent to CO_2 reduction.
