Don't Laugh... The concept is hardly new. In fact, steam lorry manufacturer Garratt supplied a whole fleet of battery electric RCVs to Glasgow almost 100 years ago. But this one is a bit different - French specialist manufacturer PVI has unveiled a new 26-tonne RCV chassis basis on a Dennis Eagle Elite, featuring lithium-ion battery technology, rather than traditional lead/acid traction batteries. The end result? Well, hopefully MVO will be able to bring you the full SP in time for the next issue as the prototype will be starting working trials with Suez Environmental in the spring, but the key headline to take on board is this: each unit could save 130 tonnes of CO_2 per annum.
