A ￡120m Energy from waste park in Wales has been approved. Successful planning applications were made to both Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC and the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority for the 20-acre energy park site, which will include "one of the most advanced recycling operations in the UK" featuring a fuel preparation area, anaerobic digestion and thermal treatment facilities. Construction at the Hirwaun site is due to start construction in the middle of 2011 and will use up to 240000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste per year from the region, produce enough electricity to power up to 40000 homes and create as many as 200 permanent jobs in the region.
