The renewables Obligation (RO) schemes are designed to incentivise renewable electricity generation. They are the key support scheme for large-scale renewable electricity projects in the UK. The RO obligates licensed electricity suppliers to source a specified and annually increasing percentage of their electricity sales from renewable sources. The RO is administered by the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (whose day-to-day functions are performed by Ofgem).
