The legislation places an obligation on licensed electricity suppliers to source a proportion of electricity from renewable sources. The current level is 9.7 percent for 2009/10, rising to 15.4 percent by 2015/16, as set out in the Renewables Obligation Order.rnThe UK Renewable Energy Strategy sets out targets for the UK to produce:rn1. more than 30 percent of electricity generated from renewables, up from about 5.5 percent todayrn2. 12 percent of our heat generated from renewables up from levels todayrn3. 10 percent of transport energy from renewables, up from the current level of 2.6 percent.
